About:
Many people think of homelessness as strictly an urban phenomenon because homeless people are greater in number and are more visible in urban areas, but homelessness is pervasive in rural areas. The number of people who experience rural homelessness is unknown, but the last national count of homeless people found that 9 percent of homeless people live in rural areas.
Our Promise-
Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.
Our Mission Statement-
The mission of the North Columbia Community Action Council is to provide a broad variety of survival and transitional services to disadvantaged persons that will enable them to withstand the effects of poverty and to help them fully participate in the social and economic mainstream of society.
The council is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors representing the low income, public and private sectors of the community.
How to become involved:
The success of this program depends on partnerships. Your business,
organization, the community – or you as an individual – might have
the resource or skill that a particular family needs to stabilize their living
situation and move ahead toward homeownership. Here are a few examples of ways you may be able to help:
Provide Housing! Provide Housing! Provide Housing! Everyone wins when you partner as a landlord/property manager. You provide housing, we provide rent, and the person or family receives a home of their own.
Mentor a family – share your knowledge about finances, credit repair.
Provide an employment or
Training opportunity.
Make a rental unit available or fund a security deposit
Offer a low-interest loan, mortgage assistance.
Help with child care or health care needs.
Help with resume writing, job searches.
Donate funds for education.
Help a family move.
