alternative for charcoal
Women, like this happy Lady from Chimbele, are looking forward to get Peko Pe Stoves for they daily cooking.
The Peko Pe is a multi fuel combustion system and can be used with multiple forms of DRY biomass, such as finger-size pieces of wood, husks, grass, cow dung and more. As long as the fuel material is dry the stove gives a good result. The fuel can burn without smoke and reach a temperature of 600 to 700 degrees celsius. Charcoal burners and dealers can easily join in and grow energy forest. These can be many kinds of fast growing woody plants, which then will be harvested all year around, dried and processed and sold instead of charcoal. The stove is meant to be build by the tinkers who are now build charcoal braziers. The Peko Pe is a simple design and has been improved by Mr Wendelbo from Norway. This stove is an alternative to the charcoal brazier and can help the forests to recover from the ongoing cutting of trees for charcoal. The demand for firewood is ever increasing and the availability is dramatically going down. If you like to help with the programme please contact us. You might think; what can I do? Well, we need tools and sheetmetal for the villagers, who can produce the Peko Pe stove. It will give them an income and it will help the environment. Trees can recover. The air will be healthier, there will be less smoke because there is less charcoal burning. The charcoal person will possibly be healthier as he doesn't need to produce so much charcoal anymore. |

women in action
Women working with Project OSCAR are always active. Here they are preparing to plant sweet potatoes. On a different field they helped to plant in conjunction with the youths and a male group to prepare and plant so far 140 fruit trees for a mixed orchard. It is anticipated to plant 500 various fruit trees including a good number of indigenous bush foods, which are endangered. To many farmers and villagers are burning off too much of the bush land whithout understanding the importance of the trees and their surrounding.
Mushrooms, fruit or caterpillers are collected today and tomorrow the tree is cut down for fire wood. |

Twatasha Community School buildings
3x1 class room buildings were build in 2004 by the Kaela family and a small group of people with the help through donors from Canada. this complex was supposed to be the base for Project OSCAR Community Service Society Zambia. At present the buildings are used by Chimbele Basic School as there are not enough buildings at the village itself. Once this problem is solved OSCAR hopes to be able to used the buildings for further education for anyone who does not fit into the usual education scheme. There is help needed to put up structures for training puerposes. it was planned to start a Nursery School in 2010. in the mean time the team of the association is training Youths in growing and working with bamboo, different gardening methods, market gardening, value adding to produce, growing of energy forest, using and building an alternative to charcoal braziers - the Peko Pe Stove and much more. all programmes are concentrating on training mainly Youths and Women on income generating activities. for more information please contact us on abbaker2007@live.com
